Mrs. Goldie Campbell, 94, of Woodbury died August 31, 2009 at her home. She was born July 8, 1915 in Cannon County. Visitation will be held Tuesday, Sept. 1, 2009 from 4-8 PM at the Smith Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Wednesday, Sept. 2, 2009 at 2 PM in the Smith Funeral Home chapel with Wade Campbell officiating. Interment will follow at Center Hill Cemetery.

Jimmy Tyrone Blair, 63, of Woodbury, died Friday, August 14, 2009. He was the son of the late Floyd and Sylvia Hibdon Blair. Lions Beat West Creek For First Win Under Schrenk
Cannon County traveled to class 5A West Creek High School in Clarksville last Friday. Following a week of practice to correct their mistakes from the first game of the season, the Lions were looking forward to their match-up against the Coyotes. It was evident from the opening kickoff that the Lions were ready to play.
Coach Joel Schrenk praised his players for playing hard. “We’ll always play hard. The boys never give up. I challenged the offense to run the ball in the second half and they answered with a time-consuming drive. They got it done and this was a good win for us.”

Two-a-days practice sessions have come and gone and are little more than a distant memory for literally thousands of high school football players. Those hot August scrimmages that many of us witnessed only a few short weeks ago are no longer the critical issues they once were. Some fans would actually have to pause and scan their memory banks if asked to name the teams their favorite squads scrimmaged against last month.
