Eddie James Crews, 64, died Tuesday, September 22, 2009 at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Murfreesboro. A resident of Woodbury, Mr. Crews was born in Nahunta, GA. He was a carpenter, a Vietnam War veteran and a member of the Baptist faith.

Jerrell Basil Phillips, 68, of Murfreesboro died Tuesday, September 22, 2009 at Middle Tennessee Medical Center in Murfreesboro following an extended illness. Mr. Phillips, a native of Cannon County, was a member of the Church of Christ and retired manager of A&M Trucking.

NASHVILLE – Cannon County's unemployment rate decreased in August by over two percentage points. The unemployment rate for the county August was 11.6 percent. It was 13.7 percent in July.

Veterans in Cannon County want their own American Legion Post; they have started the process of doing just that. The American Legion was chartered in 1919 by the Congress of the United States, as a Patriotic Organization of helpfulness, for the mutual benefits of the veterans and their families.

Accused pot growers Gerry Campbell and Marilyn Green, who turned themselves in to authorities at the Cannon County Sheriff's Department Thursday afternoon after being on the run for 10 days, will be held without bond at least until their next court hearing. They also face additional charges.

Home Fire Affects 12 Family Members
Heart of Tennessee Chapter volunteers responded to a fire in Bradyville Thursday afternoon. Red Cross officials were able to provide the family with emergency food, clothing, medicine, housing and they were given referrals to partner agencies for other essentials.
