Graden Strang poured in 14 points and the tandem of Jacob Gonzalez and Austin Brock combined for 11 as No. 5 seed East Side turned back Woodbury Grammar 25-13 in the first round of the 2011 Cancer Tournament at Woodbury Grammar School Monday (Dec. 5). Briar Jakes led the way with 14 points as No. 3 Auburn rolled to a 47-16 win against No. 6 Short Mountain in the other boys first-round game. Tournament action continues today (Dec. 8) with No. 1 Woodland facing East Side at 5:30 p.m., followed by No. 2 West Side against No. 3 Auburn at 8 p.m.
Ciarra Riddle and Addie Hale scored six points each, and Miranda Byford added five points and a game-high 11 rebounds to lead Short Mountain to a 23-20 upset against Woodland in the 2011 Cancer Tournament at Woodbury Grammar. Host Woodbury Grammar also secured a first-round win. Tournament action continues today with East Side girls facing Short Mountain at 4:15 p.m. The second girls semifinal features West Side and Woodbury Grammar at 6:45 p.m. All games are at Woodbury Grammar.
