Here is another MTSU graduate I failed to recognize in last week's column. Congratulations (and so sorry I missed it) to Amanda Sissom Francis.

Thanks for all the prayers and good wishes for granddaughter, Alayna Reed, who underwent her 2nd knee surgery Friday. She is up and doing well.

Thursday night it was off to The White Possum Grill in Smithville for P-pa and me to enjoy a meal with Wanda Yule of Grandview, MO, Richard and Barbara Harris of Macon, GA, and Jewell Dale of Tunnell Hill, GA.

While here, the visitors were also treated to a meal at Smitty's Mkt and Hardward and Gassaway Market.

Friday, the 2013 eighth grade class of Auburn Elementary enjoyed their "Senior" trip to Holiday World.

Marvin and Ruth Davenport were in Murfreesboro Friday morning to attend a retirement breakfast provided by State Farm.

Gathering at our house Friday night to visit with the above "out-of-towners" were Anita Patrick, Kyle, Shannon and Kullon Patrick, Bethany and Rylon Morrison, Ryan Womack, Case Isenhart, and Tim, DeAnna, Janna, Alayna and Adrianna Reed.

Lytle and Helen Tenpenny, Mary Jones Kelly, Pat Murphy, Wanda Yule, Jewell Dale, Martha Taylor and Ellen Smithson were joined by Bess Finley at the Parthenon Grille in Murfreesboro for one last 1958 gathering of the year. A lot of good times were rehashed.

It was a beautiful day for a celebration and Jimmy and Elaine Mingle did just that for grandson, Tommy Griffith who graduates from Cannon Co. High School. Many, many family and friends came by to say "Congratulations, Tommy".

Sunday, June 2, at 2:30 p.m. Bro. Jerry Osborne is leading a memorial service at Donnell Cemetery.

Received an email this week from Chris Prater. He wanted to update everyone on the Auburn Church of Christ Youth Mission Trip they are taking to Costa Rica leaving June 25th returning July 3rd. They are concentrating their efforts in towns of La Fortuna and Santa Clara, this is where the pineapples at the grocery store are from. They are working with an orphanage, doing renovation in the local church and distributing food in the towns. The ladies of the church have made blankets for the 20 children in the orphanage.

Those making the trip are youth minister Michael Miller, Tommy Melton, Jordan Turney, Jonathan Neely, Tyler McCann, Lauren Turney, Mackenzie Turney, McKenzie Fielder, Emily Sissom, Judy Todd, Sandi McDaniels, Jimmy McKnight, Virginia McKnight, Katie McKnight, and Chris and Yazmin Prater. They thank each one for their assistance, prayers and encouraging words.

Tuesday morning, Eddie and Donna Nichols visited with his mom, Mattie Drue Nichols, in Lebanon. Lunch was shared with his sister, Judy and Paul Van Hook.

Due to me recently attending the luncheon at Maple Street Grill with some of the 1958 graduates, I was able to pick up another Juicy tale. This one came from Ronnie Gaither: Back in Juicy's day it was cheaper for a smoker to roll his own cigarette. The paper was very thin and when held in the mouth very long it would drop off usually landing dry end up with the wet part stuck to whatever surface it landed on. Juicy was this type of smoker and Ronnie says each of his cigarettes would land on the garage floor in this fashion so that all over the garage, there were cigarette butts sticking up in the air.

Celebrating birthdays this week are Jacob Bryson and Ruth Bethel who celebrate the same day I do which is the 30th. Darrell Turney and Jim Sherrell finish out the month of May. Bringing in the month of June is Sara Drue Nichols Zimmer on the 1st. Skipping all the way to the 4th, it will be Scarlett Turney and Noah Barnes who celebrate. Happy birthday to all of you (even me!)

On the last day of May in 1963 Doris Jane Fletcher became the bride of William York. The first day of June is Mitchell and Veronica Davenport's anniversary. Joe and Velma Turner have their 54th the same day Lori and Nick Smith have their 2nd which is the 4th. Happy anniversary to all 3 couples.
