The Auburntown City Council met April 5, 2011, at 6:00 PM for their regular monthly meeting. Mayor Roger Turney and all councilpersons were present.
The previous minutes of March 2011 was presented for approval by the city Recorder. The minutes were reviewed and approved as presented.
The financial report was presented for approval. Following the discussion of several expenditures the report was approved. The balance of funds on hand as of March 31, 2011, was $43, 923.30.
The Council approved the support of S.A.V.E. by granting a financial gift to them of $500.00. This was in response to Lisa Baird’s presentation to the Council last month.
The Council approved an increase in the mowing of C. S. Park to $200.00 and the mowing of Community Hall area to $55.00.
The Mayor reported the community Easter egg hunt held in the C. S. Hawking Park April 2, 2011 was considered a huge success. It was estimated there were over a hundred little urchins gathering up the chocolate eggs strewn of all over the area.
The Mayor reported that city grants to extend utility water lines had reached the maximum. The state will not let the city apply for further grants unless it is within the city limits.
Councilperson, Tina Fletcher, gave a report on Red Apple Day preparation. Discussion followed, although, no action was taken.
Chris Blackburn, Fire Chief, gave a report on the fire department. No significant or unusual proceedings were noted in the report. He stated the Firemen were back holding their 3rd Saturday “Fish Fry” each month.
The following students from Cannon County High School Government Class was present and monitored the meeting: Amelia Higgins, Dallas Joyce, Ashley Ruth, Allison Higgins and Onsley Warner.
The meeting adjourned at approximately 7:00 PM.
