Blaine Elkins pitched a complete game three-hitter and Matt Calamia hit a sacrifice fly in the top of the sixth to score the winning run as Cannon advanced to the bracket championship game of the winners bracket of the District 8-AA baseball tournament at Macon County High School Tuesday night beating Watertown 2-1.
Elkins, who will be suiting up for Maryville College next season, sat down 7 Watertown batters to strikeouts.
Tonight the Lions will face the winner of the Watertown/Macon County game. Both are 1-1 in the double elimination tournament. Cannon's game will start around 7:00 at Macon County. Starting pitcher has not been determined but it will be either Zach Basham or Garett Alexander. With the Lions being 2-0 they get two chances to win to advance.
If Cannon wins tonight, they automatically qualify for the region tournament. They will then play in the District 8-AA championship game.
