Friends of Library to meet June 4

The Friends of the Adams Memorial Library will have a meeting on Monday, June 4, at 6:00 pm. The meeting will be held at the president's house at 100 College Street. Everyone is welcome to attend. A light dinner of Subway sandwiches will be provided so please let us know if you are coming so we can make sure to provide enough food. You might be surprised that there is a Friends of the Library organization since we are a quiet group. In fact, the Friends was begun shortly after the Adams Memorial Library was built and has been helping the library in various ways since the beginning. The Friends was granted 501 (c) 3 status about 25 years ago when Clyde Thomas, a retired Exxon employee, wanted to recommend the Friends for an Exxon grant that could only be given to an organization designated by the IRS as a charitable organization.

Through Mr. Thomas the Friends of the Library was able to obtain this grant several times. Another long-time fundraiser was the annual book sale that the Friends used to hold in the Jennings Community Room. For the last few years, the Friends group has conducted an annual roast to raise money for the library's expansion.

Please come to our June 4, meeting to share your ideas and thoughts about what the Friends can do in the future. If you don't have any ideas, join us for fun and to meet some new friends.
