James N. Lassiter, Jr., 86, died Monday, April 4, 2011 att his home following an extended illness.

A resident of Woodbury, he was born in Cannon County.

Survivors include two daughters, Carol (Bob) Melton of Woodbury and Teresa (Joe) Tate of                     Readyville; two grandchildren, Kelly (Melissa) Melton of Woodbury and Ann (Chris) Jackson of Murfreesboro; and four great grandchildren, Cortney and Zachary Melton of Woodbury and Bradley and Bethany Jackson of Murfreesboro

He was preceded in death by his parents, James N. Lassiter, Sr. and Nancy Josephine Brandon Lassiter; wife, Jane McFerrin Lassiter and siblings, Jim White Lassiter, Anna Mai Cathey, Peyton Lassiter, Jesse Rhea Reed and William Lassiter.

Mr. Lassiter was a 1942 graduate of Woodbury Central High School, where in 1938 he was a charter member of the Woodbury FFA. He was a veteran of WWII, where he served in the Army and was wounded in combat.  He was a Purple Heart recipient. A retired rural letter carrier, he was a member of Burt Baptist church where he served as Deacon, a member of the Hilton Stone American Legion Post #279, Woodbury, TN., The Military Order of Purple Heart Assoc. Chapter 613, Murfreesboro, TN. and Veteran and Concerned Citizens of Cannon Co.

Funeral services will be held at Burt Baptist Church at 10 a.m. on Wednes, April 06, 2011 with Bro. David Moody officiating.  Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 – 9 pm Tuesday, April 05, 2011 at Woodbury Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Ingram Cancer Center at Vanderbilt or Burt Baptist Church Building Fund

Active pallbearers will be Randy Brandon, Jerry Barrett, Larry Sanders, Jim Stone, and Dustin Sanders.

Woodbury Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
