Kathryn "Katie" Harvey Omel, 66, of Polk City, Fla., died Dec. 6, 2009, at her home with her husband at her side after a long battle with cancer.

Katie was born Sept. 24, 1943, in Wellington, New Zealand, to Rollo S. and Elizabeth Taylor Harvey. She grew up in the North Platte, Nebr. area where she graduated from North Platte High School with the class of 1962.

Katie was a homemaker with many talents. She loved animals and was never without a dog and a cat.

She and her husband, Gary Omel, moved to Readyville, Tenn. in 1995. From late 2001 to 2008, they maintained a home in Readyville but traveled in their motor home, making many friends along the way.

Katie was a member of the First Baptist Church in Polk City, where they recently bought a retirement home. She was a very giving lady and will be missed by all.

Katie is survived by her daughter, JoyLyn (Mike) Smith of Hayes, Kan.; her sons, Robert (Joanne) Williams of North Platte,Nebr., Dwayne (Nancy) Williams of Franklin,Nebr., Bill (Rose) Williams of Phoenix, Ariz., step-daughter, Debbie Omel of Lincoln,Nebr., stepson, Kevin Omel of Huntsville, Ala.; brothers, Rick (Shari) Harvey of North Platte,Nebr., Randy (Deborah) Harvey of Lewellyn,Nebr., and nine grandchildren.

A memorial service will be scheduled for a later date.
