The last time the Cannon County Lionettes girls soccer team beat a Smith County team, it was when the program started 12 years ago. Since then the Lionettes have never beaten the Carthage team. Last season, the Smith County teams won all three matches but the scores were closer than they have ever been with the Lionettes losing the season finale in the opening round of the District playoffs 2-0 in a close contest to last years regular season champions. The Lady Owls would go on to the District Tournament championship where they were upset by York.
The Lionettes are ready to compete tonight with Anna Belle Olsen back from injury. A couple of roster additions should help the Lionettes this evening. It's an important district game as York sits atop the district race with a 2-0 record. Cannon is 1-1 in district play while according to Smith County records this is the first district game of the season for the Lady Owls. Tonight's game kicks off at 6:00 in Carthage.
The Cannon County Middle Grades Football Team will head to Gladeville to meet Gladeville Middle School. The Lions posted 52 points last Thursday at Community School to go 3-1 on the season. Tonight's game will start at 6:30. You can catch the play by play on Facebook Live through the Cannon Courier News and Events Facebook Page. Live stream will be up five minutes before game time at 6:25.
