Netters sweep Wildcats

Cannon County’s tennis teams swept Livingston Academy last week.

The Lionettes won by a 7-0 count and the Lions won 6-1.

Sarah Hickman got the day off to a strong start with an 8-0 win at No. 1 singles. The Lionettes rolled from there. Katie Hickman posted an 8-1 win at No. 2 singles, followed by victories by Kristen McReynolds (8-3) at No. 3; Ashley Barnes (8-6) at No. 4 and Autumn King rounded out the singles scoring with an 8-1 domination at No. 6.

The Lionettes also won the doubles point when the team of Katie Hickman and Kristen McReynolds teamed to turn back their foe, 8-0.

The Lions also tasted victory by disposing of the Wildcats by a 6-1 count.

Cole Kaney suffered a tough loss at No. 1 singles, falling 9-8. He lost the tiebreaker 9-7 in a highly-competitive match that went back and forth throughout.

The Lions followed with wins at No. 2 through 6 singles.

Jeffery Northcutt was an 8-6 winner at No. 2 singles. The Lions followed with victories from Daxton Patrick (8-6), Jacob Barnes (8-3), Jude Kaney (8-3) and Briar Jakes (8-3).

Cannon County secured the victory when Kaney and Northcutt teamed to win, 8-1, at No. 1 doubles as the Lions earned the team sweep.
