New Acts Confirmed For Great Tennessee Air Show

Smyrna, TN (April 22, 2011) -- The Great Tennessee Air Show soars back into Middle Tennessee on Saturday, May 7 and Sunday, May 8 at the Smyrna Airport.  This air show extravaganza features the internationally renowned United States Air Force Thunderbirds precision flight demonstration team, many other exciting aerobatic acts such as the F-15 Strike Eagle and F/A 18 Hornet, as well as ground aircraft static displays and activities for children.
 
Tickets are still available. Advance general admission for children ages 4-12 is $8, gate admission is $10, children under age 4 are free. Adult tickets (12 and older) are $15 in advance and $20 at the gate the day of the show. Premium box seating and Flight Line Club tickets are also available. The gates will open at 8am each day. For over forty years the Great Tennessee Air Show has given Tennesseans the opportunity to experience aviation up close and personal. The last show in 2008 attracted more than 40,000 aviation fans.
                 
John Black, Executive Director of the Smyrna Airport, commented on the importance of bringing the Great Tennessee Air Show to the Smyrna Airport, "To showcase the airport and to allow people to get up close and personal with aviation." He continued, "We want to inspire our youth, our next generation of pilots, and it's a boost to the local economy. We fill up hotels and restaurants and are expecting about 50,000 people at this year's event."
 
The United States Air Force Thunderbirds precision flight demonstration team has been performing around the globe since 1953. Flying the Fighting Falcon F-16 aircraft, this performance is a show of speed and maneuverability. Their last appearance at the Great Tennessee Air Show was in 2005. This signature aviation event will also include performances by Airshow legends Gene Soucy and Wing Walker Teresa Stokes; Michael Goulian - USA pilot in the Red Bull Air Race World Championship; Jason Newburg flying the Viper; Cheryl Stearns - award winning skydiver and first female member of the US Army Golden Knights; Kendal "Aeronut" Simpson flying the Pitts Model 12; F-15E and FA-18 Tactical Demonstrations; Dave Folk in the WWII F4U Corsair; Rob Holland - Member of USA World Aerobatic Team; and, world famous air show announcer Danny Clisham. As a salute to the 100th anniversary of Naval aviation, there will be a US Navy Legacy Flight featuring the FA-18 Hornet and the F4U Corsair. There will also be static displays on site with everything from the C-5 Galaxy and FedEx 757, to homebuilt aircraft and food and merchandise concessions.
