Oscar ‘Nig’ Thomas, 86, died Monday, October 31, 2011 at Alvin C. York Medical Center.
He was a resident of Woodbury and a native of Cannon County.
Survivors:
Daughters: Linda (Russell) Helmers of Murfreesboro; Kay (Roger) Patterson & Judy (Terry) Spray both of Woodbury.
Sister: Racine Mooneyham of Woodbury.
5 Grandchildren: Christy (Troy) Oakley, Bridgette (Robby) Allen, Tony (Erica) Spray, Brian Spray and MaKenzie Patterson.
4 Great Grandchildren: Colby & Graci Oakley, Kail Spray and Lilly Allen.
He was preceded in death by his parents, J.B. and Bertha Thomas; wife, Nannie Walline Thomas; son, Loyd Thomas; grandson, Donald Wayne Blanton; brothers, Albert, Bud, Milford, Marvin & Jr. Thomas; sisters, Mila Fay Davenport and Margie Mooneyham.
Mr. Thomas was a member of the Pentecostal church and was retired from the Colonial Shirt Factory. He was a former POW and a veteran of WWII where he served in the Army. He received 2 Bronze Stars, the WWII Victory Medal, the American Service Medal and the European African Middle Eastern Medal.
Funeral services will be held at the Woodbury Funeral Home at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 2 with Bro. Tony Burnett officiating. Burial will be in Prater Cemetery with Full Military Honors.
Visitation will be after 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 1, 2011.
Pallbearers: Roger Patterson, Terry and Brian Spray; Colby and Troy Oakley, Brian Mullican and Robby Allen.
