Six indicted by grand jury

Indictments were returned against six people by the Cannon County Grand Jury during its session on Jan. 18 at the Cannon County Courthouse.

• James J. Travis for two counts of aggravated assault and one count each of attempted second degree murder, reckless endangerment with a firearm and employing a weapon during the commission of a felony. The case was presented by Deputy Mark Sloan of the Cannon County Sheriff's Department stemming from his investigation of an incident at Travis' home on June 30, 2018 during which it is alleged he tried to shoot both his stepson and wife.

• Mark A. McClain for aggravated child abuse. McClain allegedly inflicted severe and permanent physical damage to his infant son during an incident at his home on July 1. The case was presented by Sgt. Chip Avera of the Cannon County Sheriff's Department.

• Dallas J. Rogers for possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. Rogers allegedly left marijuana inside a toilet tank at First Stop Market on Aug. 28. The case was presented by Woodbury Police Chief Lowell Womack, who testified during a preliminary hearing he found the suspected marijuana in the toilet after receiving information from Cannon County Sheriff 's Investigator Brandon Gullett of its location. Rogers allegedly left the marijuana for someone to pick up, a suspicion confirmed by text messages on Rogers' phone.

• Amanda L. Sowell for theft of property (a 2008 Chevy Impala), driving while license suspended and registration violation. The case was presented by Investigator Gullett stemming from his investigation of a Nov. 2 incident during which a vehicle Sowell was driving was stopped for crossing over the center line multiple times on Hwy. 53 South. The Impala had been reported as stolen in Nashville on Aug. 2017.

• Cynthia D. Gray for possession of marijuana with intent, maintaining a dwelling for use, storage, or sale of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. Investigator Gullett went to Gray's home on Hutchins Lane in July 2018 after receiving reports of possible drug activity there. The suspected marijuana and paraphernalia were allegedly discovered during an ensuing consensual search.

• Bradley S. Sanders for manufacturing marijuana, maintaining a dwelling for use, storage, or sale of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. Gullett allegedly found marijuana plants and various items commonly associated with drug use and selling during the execution of a search warrants at Sanders' home on Big Hill Road on Aug. 27.
