Plot:

Oklahoma!, was the first collaborative effort by famed partnership, Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II, wherein they created the standard of America's greatest contribution to theatre...the musical! Set in an Indian Territory not long after the turn of the 20th century, the plot involves love, attraction, jealousy, manipulation, and everything in-between. The story follows a farmgirl, Laurey, and her courtship with two men. One is a handsome well-meaning cowboy named Curly. The other is a troubled farmhand named Jud. Other characters include the flirtatious and flighty Ado Annie who boasters her own two suitors: Will, who can't seem to hold onto enough money to win Annie's father's approval, and a peddler named Ali, who has the money, but no desire to be married! Aunt Eller (Laurey's aunt) and Andrew Carnes (Annie's father) round out the lead characters in this delightful song and dance about love and life in the wild frontier!

Characters:

Laurey Williams (any ethnicity, must be able to play mid to late twenties) A young woman who

is independent, strong-willed, and lives with her Aunt Eller on a farm. C4-A5 Soprano

Curly McLain (any ethnicity, must be able to play mid-twenties, early thirties) A cowboy, in love

with Laurey, but plays cat and mouse games with her. A confident guy. Develops a deep rivalry

with Jud Fry over Laurey's affections. C3-F#4 Bass-Baritone

Ado Annie (any ethnicity, must be able to play twenties) A free spirit who is headstrong and

boy-crazy. She is in love with Will Parker, Ali Hakim and anyone who she sees fit. Her shot-gun

toting father has some say in how it ought to turn out. C4-A5 Mezzo-Soprano

Will Parker (any ethnicity, must be able to play mid-twenties) A cowboy who is in love with Ado

Annie. Not the brightest bulb in the bunch. He is a strong singer and dancer with great comedic

timing. D#3-F4 Tenor

Jud Fry (any ethnicity, must be able to play mid-twenties, early thirties) A farmhand who lives

with Aunt Eller and Laurey, but is lonely, mysterious, and misunderstood. He has a questionable

past and is in love with Laurey. D3-C#4 Bass-Baritone

Aunt Eller (any ethnicity, must be able to play a mature adult) A respected woman in the

community who is a mother figure to everyone. She is Laurey's aunt and caretaker. G3-F5

Mezzo-Soprano

Ali Hakim (any ethnicity, must be able to play mid-thirties to forties) A mysterious traveling

salesman from Persia. An outsider. While he claims he's from Persia, he may not be entirely

telling the truth. A seducer, machismo. Ensemble singing only.

Gertie Cummings (any ethnicity, must be able to play mid to late twenties) Girl from Claymore

who has her eye on Curly. Is Laurey's chief rival for Curly's attentions. Infamous for her startling

and memorable laugh. Ensemble singing only.

Andrew Carnes (any ethnicity, must be able to play a mature adult) A farmer and father of Ado

Annie who is skeptical of cowmen, especially Will Parker. F3-F4 Baritone
