The Monterey Wildcats Football program took a step up from 1A football to 2A football this season. They hope their young and talented football team can also take a step up to the new competition they'll face this season.
The Wildcats are coming off an 8-3 season and while they've traditionally been a good football program for the past five seasons, this one may very well be the year they surpass making it past the second round of the playoffs. South Pittsburg seems to be the stumbling block but the return of quarterback Matthew Montgomery and running back Mason Bowman may just be the anchors Monterey needs for another successful season.
The Cannon County Lions are sure to be much improved from the 0-10 COVID-19 2020 season.
The Lions got a full offseason in which to prepare and will be ready for their first test of the regular season when they travel to Putnam County to meet the Wildcats.
