The football rivalry between Cannon and DeKalb wasn't the only sport the two schools competed in this past week.

Tuesday the Lions and Lionettes Cross Country team took part in a multi-school meet in Smithville hosted by Dekalb County.

The Lionettes finished first as a team in the girls division finishing the meet with an over all two hour eight minute time.

Individually, Ade Harwood, Kelly Morris and Tyger Kennedy finished 5th 6th and 7th. Zettie Elrod and Kiley Hughes came in 9th and 10th in the meet. Isabella Russo and Akristia Sissom came in 20th and 21st. Ericka Taylor came in 28th.

In the boys division, Brad Phillips and Duncan Cook came in 8th and 9th while Tristan Davis finished 13th, Tyler Southworth 14th to help Cannon finish second overall. Other runners placing included James Vasser 27th, Andrew Smith 31st, Nate Campbell 37th, and Jonathan Heffelfinger 39th. Lions finished the course in one hour and forty four minutes which was seven minutes behind Blackman.

The cross country teams are schedule to participate in the Henry Horton Invite Saturday September 29th.

Cannon County overtook DeKalb County and 11 other 3A up to 5A schools including Blackman High School at DeKalb's very own meet last week.

Cannon's girls brought home first place team honors in DeKalb's own backyard at the DeKalb Midweek XC meet on September 18, with five girls snagging medals in the top ten and the rest of the Cannon girls coming in strong behind them.

The boys followed strongly right behind them in their meet with 1st place team for our region and 2nd place against out-of-region schools. Four of the boys medaled in the top 15 with the rest of Cannon boys taking several close slots right behind them.

Cannon County Cross Country is ranked first in their region. We are excited to see what October holds for the Regional qualifier and State meet for these strong runners and Cannon County.
