Cannon County Schools' Students and Staff absences due to illnesses are currently being monitored by School Officials. "Absences of students has been hovering around the ten percent (10%) range for the past week, however staff absences have steadily increased in recent days," stated Cannon County Director of Schools Mr. William F. Curtis on Thursday, January 30th, 2020. We are closely monitoring our attendance rates and checking with local health care providers regarding the rates of flu and other illnesses in the Cannon County area. We appreciate parents/guardians keeping a close watch on their students, and if students exhibit symptoms, such as a fever, to keep children at home and away from other children."

"Some bordering counties have closed due to sickness rates being much higher in those counties. In Cannon County, our toughest day so far in the past few weeks as to student absentees was last Friday, January 24th, 2020 when 252 total students or 12% of students were absent. We have remained close to the 10% threshold with Monday, January 27th, 2020 - at 229 students absent or 11% of the total school population; Tuesday, January 28th, 2020 - at 226 students absent or 11% of the total school population; Wednesday, January 29th, 2020 - at 193 students absent or 10% of the total school population; and Thursday, January 30th, 2020 - at 172 students absent or 9% of the total school population. While there has been a decrease in students sick in the past few days, the number of Teachers and Staff out has increased from only eight (8) Teachers out on Tuesday, January 28th, 2020 to nineteen (19) out on Thursday, January 30th, 2020."
