Unlike last season when returning seniors started preseason training in July, without a coach, and Coach Russ Hackett entered the scene near the beginning of the season, Coach Hackett, joined by Coach Jerry Lee Green, had their team in training and scheduled for preseason tournaments by the time the gates opened. The number of participants increased, the number of games increased and the level of play reached new heights for the CCHS Lionettes.

Last season the teams recorded a 1-5 record in district play, improving to 2-5-2 in district in 2018.

The increase in participation afforded Coach Hackett the ability a to have versatility, running players in and out of the game according to situational needs, as well as resting those who needed a break.

The District's level of competition was high this year, including teams with No. 12 and No. 14 rankings. A hard-fought win by the tenacious CCHS team dropped one of those teams to No. 24.

Coach Hackett credits extra preseason tournament play for the teams' improvement, especially a weekend tournament in Gatlinburg, which consistently pitted it against higher ranked teams. Coach Hackett expressed how proud he is of the girls, a number of whom had never before played soccer.

"Season's end is always bittersweet," stated Hackett. "We again came in fourth in District Tournament, but with a better record, and four vs. last year's three players named to All-District Team."

All-District 2nd Team members were Briley Cunningham and Jasmine Young and named to 1st Team All-District were Bradi Mason and Carolina Blanton.
