CCHS Valedictorian, Salutatorian Honored At Event

Ruth S. Gomar and Sara Bowman were joined by family members, representatives of First National Bank, the local school system and state government to honor their achievements.
Two Cannon County High School students were recognized at a breakfast Monday morning at the Cannon County Arts Center.

The 2009-2010 valedictorian and salutatorian for Cannon County High School, Ruth Sabrina Gomar and Sara Bowman, were honored at the event which was hosted by First National Bank.

This year's valedictorian is Ruth Gomar. The salutatorian is Sara Bowman.

The yearly event was organized by Rep. Stratton Bone and Sen. Mae Beavers.

"Sabrina's grades are outstanding and her behavior is above reproach and she excels at everything she does," CCHS principal Tim Knox said. "I've known Sara since she was in the first grade and she's just a beautiful person inside and out. They will represent our community well wherever they go."

Director of Schools Barbara Parker said she has enjoyed getting to know both Sabrina and Sara and also thanked First National Bank for recognizing two of the school system's outstanding students.

First National Bank president Tim Spry said the bank strives to invest in the youth of the Cannon County community.

"Congratulations to these two young ladies," Spry said. "These type of achievements do not happen by accident. They require hard work, dedication, and a drive to excel.

Sabrina plans to attend Tennessee Tech upon graduation, while Sara will be going to UT-Chattanooga.

Both Gomar and Bowman were presented with resolutions passed by the Tennessee General Assembly in recognition of their achievements.

SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION 922

A RESOLUTION to honor and recognize Ruth S. Gomar, 2010 Valedictorian of Cannon County High School.

WHEREAS, it is fitting that the members of this General Assembly should pause to pay tribute to those students who, through their natural talents and unflagging commitment to
academic excellence, have distinguished themselves in the classroom; and

WHEREAS, Ruth S. Gomar is one such exceptional student who was recently named Valedictorian of the 2010 graduating class at Cannon County High School; and

WHEREAS, through diligent study, steady composure during examinations, and steadfast commitment of time and talent, Ruth Gomar has achieved outstanding academic
success and has joined the ranks of the best and brightest students in Tennessee and our country; and

WHEREAS, in her remarkable high school career, Ruth has earned an exemplary grade point average while participating in such activities as the Beta Club, the Band, the Winterguard, and FBLA; she has also given generously of her time to community service, such as helping with Bingo at the nursing home; and

WHEREAS, Ruth’s display of intellectual aptitude and ambition surely bodes well for her future success at Tennessee Tech University; and

WHEREAS, Ruth’s noteworthy achievement is a tremendous source of pride for her mother, Zulma Gomar, her school, and her community; and

WHEREAS, Ruth Gomar’s dedication to excellence is clearly deserving of the respect, admiration, and commendation of this legislative body; now, therefore,

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF TENNESSEE, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES
CONCURRING, that we hereby commend and honor the 2010 Cannon County High School Valedictorian, Ruth S. Gomar, on her impressive academic achievement and extend to her our best wishes for a happy, successful future.

academic excellence, have distinguished themselves in the classroom; and

WHEREAS, Sara Elizabeth Bowman is one such exceptional student who was recently named Salutatorian of the 2010 graduating class at Cannon County High School; and

WHEREAS, through diligent study, steady composure during examinations, and steadfast commitment of time and talent, Sara has achieved outstanding academic success and
has joined the ranks of the best and brightest students in Tennessee and our country; and

WHEREAS, in her remarkable high school career, she has earned an exemplary 4.0 grade point average while participating in a number of worthy scholastic and extracurricular
activities, including the Beta Club, the Spanish Club, the 4-H Honor Club, the Bible Bowl Team, FBLA, Mathletes, and she served as senior class president; and

WHEREAS, her many talents and athletic prowess were on display as a member of the first girls’ soccer team at Cannon County High School; and

WHEREAS, in addition to the time and energy she has devoted to her studies and school activities, Ms. Bowman has contributed many volunteer hours to various charitable
efforts and noteworthy causes, including Cannon County Farm Day, Veteran’s Day activities, and the area nursing home and Senior Citizens Center; and

WHEREAS, Ms. Bowman’s display of intellectual aptitude, ambition, and community spirit surely bodes well for her future success; and

WHEREAS, her noteworthy achievement is a tremendous source of pride for her parents, Charles and Cynthia Bowman, her brother, her school, and her community; and

WHEREAS, Sara’s dedication to excellence is clearly deserving of the respect, admiration, and commendation of this legislative body; now, therefore,

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF TENNESSEE, THE SENATE
