Dr. Blanche Eloise Jackson Glimps, a revered educator and community servant, peacefully transitioned on December 5, 2023, leaving a legacy of unwavering commitment to education and service.

Born in Clarksville, TN, on October 29, 1942, to Agnes Tucker, a dedicated school teacher, and John L. Jackson, a proud Ford Motor Company employee, Dr. Glimps's journey unfolded with a destiny for greatness. The endearing nickname "Sister," bestowed upon her in her early years, became a cherished tradition passed down through generations.

Raised in Inkster, Michigan, Dr. Glimps's childhood laid the foundation for her love of education and resilience. Graduating 10th in her class from Inkster High School in 1960, she cherished moments with her large family, especially during festive Christmas gatherings and soulful Sunday feasts.

Beyond her laughter-filled childhood, Dr. Glimps's academic prowess shone brightly. She received scholarships to attend college, embarking on a remarkable educational journey that included a Doctor of Philosophy from the University of Michigan in Special Education.

Distinguished positions characterized Dr. Glimps' professional career, most notably his tenure as a professor at Tennessee State University from 2003 to 2019. Her influence extended beyond academia, impacting the community as a substitute teacher for Cannon County Schools from 2000 to 2002 and as a scorer for the Tennessee Teacher of the Year in 2022.

A prolific author and presenter, Dr. Glimps's publications and presentations underscore her commitment to culturally responsive teaching. Her impactful work, including collaborations such as "Understanding by Design and Culturally Responsive Teaching," left an indelible mark on the field.

Dr. Glimps was actively involved in community service in Tennessee. She contributed to various organizations, including the Ivy Enrichment Foundation. From 2014 to 2018, she also served on the Board of Directors for The Arts Center of Cannon County. During this time, she immersed herself in community service in Tennessee. Her most recent volunteer work was for the Foster Care Board in Cannon County, TN. Her dedication to education continued with roles as Full-Time Temporary Faculty at Middle Tennessee State University in University Studies and Reading from 2019 to 2020 and as an Adjunct Instructor in University Studies and at the Department of Elementary and Special Education from 2020 to 2021.

Dr. Glimps's legacy of excellence and community service lives on through her sorority sisters of Pi Nu Omega Chapter of
Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated®, her daughter and granddaughter who are members as well, her graduate student granddaughter, her husband, and a multitude of friends and family. Together, they will carry forward her story of resilience, passionately raising awareness for Ovarian Cancer. Blanche cherished being acknowledged as a Lifetime Member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated.

Dr. Blanche Jackson Glimps's life will be celebrated on Saturday, January 13, 2024, Visitation: 1:30 P.M. - 2:00
Celebration of Life 2:00 P.M.- 3:00
at North Boulevard Church of Christ in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. The family requests attendees honor Dr. Glimps's memory by wearing pink, green, and teal colors. Instead of flowers, contributions of skeins of yarn for a local retirement center and children's books for a literacy program are encouraged.

As we gather to celebrate her life, let us remember Dr. Blanche Jackson Glimps--a beacon of scholarship, service, and sisterhood whose influence will continue to resonate in our hearts.
