Grant helps protect local law enforcement officers

From left, Cannon County Sheriff Darrell Young, 911/EMA Director Roy Sullivan and Woodbury Police Chief Lowell Womack display equipment recently purchased through a Homeland Security Grant. The grant was awarded to local Law Enforcement's request for Ballistic plates, Carriers and Helmets for the Sheriffs Dept. and Woodbury Police Department. Cannon County was awarded $19,812 for Law Enforcement protective gear. This grant was applied for by Cannon County Emergency Management Agency. The Department of Homeland Security has identified the need for further protecting our local Law Enforcement since the use of high powered rifles is becoming more commonplace. This equipment is greatly needed for our local Law Enforcement Officers.
