Joanie Blackburn named Cannon County Schools Employee of the Month

Cannon County Director of Schools Mr. William F. Curtis congratulates Mrs. Joanie Blackburn - School Nurse as Cannon County Schools Employee of the Month for the March 2019.

Mrs. Joanie Blackburn, School Nurse for West Side, Woodland, and East Side Schools was named as "Employee of the Month" for April 2019 by Cannon County Schools. During the April Meeting of the Cannon County Board of Education on Thursday, April 11th, 2019, Mrs. Blackburn was recognized and presented a certificate by Cannon County Schools Director William F. Curtis for her service to the Cannon County School System. Employees are nominated by School Principals or School District Supervisors and are voted on during monthly Principal and Supervisor meetings regarding individuals who exemplify the Mission and Vision of Cannon County Schools.

West Side School Principal Mrs. Karen King nominated her employee stating, "Nurse Joanie Blackburn goes the extra mile every day. She befriends and comes alongside parents. She sits with them to register kids for various programs on the computer when they don't have skills or computer access. She makes doctor's appointments and follows up to make sure the kids have gone. She speaks to medical facilities at parents' requests on behalf of the students and parents. Our kids and their families are her top priority. She messages parents in the evening hours to remind them to give meds or check sugar levels or helps them count carbs. She reads the menus for our diabetic students and helps them plan dosages. When there are last-minute changes to the menus, she will help the student adjust accordingly. She works with counselors to get students counseling time or to be referred to Health Connects She works to keep our kids as healthy as possible both mentally and physically."

Cannon County Schools Coordinated School Health Supervisor Mrs. Bonnie Patterson stated, "School nurses are a valuable resource to our students and staff in our community. They often are the only medical personnel that some students ever see. We are lucky to have Nurse Joanie as well as Nurse Leslie Pelham and Nurse Emily Gilley on our team to help keep our students safe and healthy."

Director of Cannon County Schools, Mr. William F. Curtis stated, "School Nurse Joanie Blackburn works very hard every day aiding our students with medical issues. She strives to help all students whether the need is large or small. Nurse Joanie personifies our Mission of Cannon County Schools of 'Preparing All Students for their Future' by most assuredly being 'The New E3 - Engaged in Excellence Every Day.' Congratulations to School Nurse Joanie Blackburn for being an impactful 'Team Player' in our Cannon County Schools family and specifically West Side, Woodland, and East Side Schools."
