The District 6-AA basketball tournament has a different feel for the teams who make up the district. The field of teams is shortened to four after three of the teams were embedded for years in an eight team district. While most districts across the state are now comprised of four to five teams and an additional classification was added, advancing to the region tournament is now much easier if not automatic altogether but teams know the importance of playing their district tournaments in regards to seeding for the region tournaments.
Tonight the Cannon County Lionettes will be playing in the second game of the District 6-AA tournament and although their opponent Smith County has been successful in their last four meetings, the Lionettes almost pulled off a road upset January 28th when they led most of the game right up till the final few minutes and could not hold off a Lady Owl comeback as Smith County won 44-39.
Tonight's game is on a neutral court at Watertown High School with tipoff scheduled at 7:30 right after the Westmoreland and Watertown game. Game will be livestreamed on Cannon Courier's Facebook page "Cannon Courier News and Events" with the stream starting around 7:15.
