One of Motlow State's newest faculty members is leading the Hospitality Management Program that is slated to begin on the Moore County campus and online in August of 2025. Dr. Jack Babb is excited for the opportunity to build this new program from the ground up and create a new world of opportunities for students.
Babb's interest in the field of hospitality came from a position he held at a country club that introduced him to food service, lodging, event management, and recreation segments. He combined these professional pursuits with his love of learning and obtained a doctorate from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. As someone who greatly values knowledge, it is important to Dr. Babb that he create an environment that inspires students to learn and helps them to achieve their goals.
He stated, "I believe stagnation is the enemy of academia, so I will always strive to grow, listen, and learn. If students see me continually pursue knowledge, I hope that will inspire them to do the same."
While seeking a role in higher education that would allow him to combine his love of his field with his passion for education, Babb was offered the unique opportunity to build the foundation for Motlow State's upcoming Hospitality Management Program. He is currently hard at work preparing the curriculum and assisting in the renovation of Moore County's former cafeteria facilities so that students can learn and operate in a fully functioning commercial kitchen.
Babb added, "I want to develop a program that students find valuable. If I build a program that helps students achieve their goals, then I will have achieved mine."
