Arna Smithson took top honors at the Color of Fall Car Show with his 1963 Chevrolet.

"The winner was Arna hands down. It was an outstanding entry," said Carolyn Motley, show organizer.

"We spent 3 years and 8 months getting her ready to show," Smithson said when asked about his car.
Heavy use of chrome on the 500-plus horsepower 409 cubic inch engine caught the judges' (and spectators) eyes during the rain-delayed competition Saturday (Oct. 10).

Arna's wife, Tina, suggested a '63 Chevy Impala for a restoration project. "My first car was a '63 Chevy," he explained.

Just about everything in the engine compartment was chromed except for the hoses. "Maybe someday they will come up with a way of chroming hose," Smithson laughed.

The Chevy was painted a deep, resonant black. The idea being making the paint wet and shiny at all times.

Saturday was a busy day for show organizer Carolyn Motley of the Cannon County Chamber of Commerce,

Due to two rain delays, the Color of Fall show was combined with a more traditional Cruise-In.

"We're winding up the Color of Fall Show just in time to start the Cruise-In," Motley laughed. "It's been quite a day."

In the Color of Fall Show, vehicles are judged by a team of experts in a number of categories ranging from Rat Rods to customs like Smithson's Chevy. Race cars were included in the competition which let the streets of Woodbury humming with high-performance engines.
